Just Kids (Mensjesrechten)
‘They’re not a burden to us. They’re people with a heart and a soul and they all have their talents.’ These words are spoken by twelve-year-old Letizia about the refugees who arrive on her island Sicily by boat on an almost daily basis. Some of them are teenagers travelling alone. Together with her parents, Letizia gives them shelter. The boys see Letizia as their little sister and tell her remarkable stories. Who, for instance, is Mohammed from Mali who is so keen on all things pink? Letizia calls on us to make friendships with these people. Simply because they’re so nice!
SOS Friendship is about children’s right to extra help if they have been through traumatic events.
